This product is called a "Taylor Spindle" and is used to stop a door handle from being pressed down or a mortice knob from being turned.
It is basically a 8mm short spindle on a round rose.
The round rose part is screwed to the door and the follower (the square hole for the spindle) is inserted over the "Taylor Spindle". Once this is done you simply fix the door handle or mortice knob to the door and there you have it, a fixed lever or knob.
It is ideally used on cupboard doors where you require the door furniture to be inkeeping with the rest of the house but do not want the door handle damanged by pressing it down all the time.
